Install the prerequisites

Before pipx install parapetai-mcp, you need Python, pipx, and (for running a generated demo project) uv on your machine. Pick your OS, run these once.

i

The quickdemo/ADK/MAF skills don't do this for you. They assume Python 3.12+, pipx, and uv (or plain pip) are already installed, and won't detect your OS or install anything. If you have Claude Code and parapetai-mcp already connected, running /parapet-install-prereqs instead does exactly this page's job interactively — detects your real OS, checks what's missing, and asks before running each install command (never installs anything without a yes). This page is the same thing, by hand.

  1. 1

    Homebrew

Skip if you already have it — check with brew --version.

    $
    /bin/bash -c "$(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Homebrew/install/HEAD/install.sh)"
  2. 2

    Python 3.12+

    $
    brew install python@3.12

    Verify: python3 --version

  3. 3

    pipx

Installs CLI tools (like parapetai-mcp) into their own isolated venv, on PATH — a bare pip install fails on Homebrew's Python (PEP 668).

    $
brew install pipx && pipx ensurepath

Verify: pipx --version — then restart your terminal so the PATH change takes effect.

  4. 4

    uv

Only needed to run a generated demo project (uv sync / uv run) — a plain python3 -m venv + pip install -e . works too if you'd rather skip this.

    $
    brew install uv

    Verify: uv --version

  1. 1

    Python 3.12+

    Debian/Ubuntu:

    $
    sudo apt update && sudo apt install -y python3.12 python3.12-venv python3-pip

    Fedora/RHEL:

    $
    sudo dnf install -y python3.12

    Verify: python3 --version

  2. 2

    pipx

    $
    python3 -m pip install --user pipx && python3 -m pipx ensurepath

Newer Debian/Ubuntu releases also ship it directly: sudo apt install -y pipx.

Verify: pipx --version — then restart your shell (or source ~/.bashrc) so PATH updates.

  3. 3

    uv

Only needed to run a generated demo project — a plain venv + pip install -e . works too.

    $
    curl -LsSf https://astral.sh/uv/install.sh | sh

    Verify: uv --version

Homebrew (Linuxbrew) works on Linux too, but isn't required — apt/dnf already cover everything above.

  1. 1

    Python 3.12+

    PowerShell:

    $
    winget install --id Python.Python.3.12

No winget? Install from python.org directly — check "Add python.exe to PATH" during setup.

    Verify: py --version

  2. 2

    pipx

    $
py -m pip install --user pipx
    py -m pipx ensurepath

Verify: pipx --version — then close and reopen your terminal so PATH updates.

  3. 3

    uv

Only needed to run a generated demo project — a plain venv + pip install -e . works too.

    $
powershell -ExecutionPolicy ByPass -c "irm https://astral.sh/uv/install.ps1 | iex"

    Verify: uv --version

Prefer a Linux-style setup? Install WSL and follow the Linux tab inside it instead.

  1. →

    Next: install parapetai-mcp

Once pipx (and, if you want it, uv) are on your PATH:

    $
    pipx install parapetai-mcp
